Rabet

2007-09-28
|
Location: Kansas
Don't let the name fool you; Rabet is more like a wild hare than an Easter bunny. Though only a year old, he came to rescue with orthopedic problems: bad hips, little use of one leg, and considerable chronic discomfort. Rabet carried much of his 13 pounds in his front end, which developed heavy muscles while his rear end was thin and wasted. After surgery, Rabet has learned to walk on both back legs, although when he runs he will lapse back to moving them together, like a rabbit. He still sits oddly and will always walk with a stiff-legged shuffle, but the surgery did relieve his pain. Now he has become quite the active dog, and will run around the yard just for fun. He gets along fine with other dogs but has a high prey drive so shouldn't be around small animals; he is obsessive about cage birds and will try to get to them. He shows little interest in cats but would probably chase if one ran. Rabet enjoys attention and likes every human he meets, big or small. He likes car rides and walks, and gets very excited when he sees the leash. He is housebroken (using a dog door reliably) and is crate trained although he will whine/bark when crated if there is activity in the house. Rabet is definitely terrier and should have a home with terrier experience.

Maxwell

2008-04-04
|
Location: Kansas
In his neat black and white coat, Maxwell is a good looking 1-year-old fella of around 16 pounds who seriously needs a job. He started out as a family dog, even getting some obedience training, but before he was a year old, Max was turned in to a shelter because he was "too much dog" for the family. Max does have a lot of energy and his foster mom thinks he could be an excellent candidate for agility or flyball. He will sit, give a paw, lie down (sometimes), and speak. He loves to fetch a ball, can climb a ladder, and run through a tunnel. Maxwell is good with kids and other dogs (aside from the occasional dominance dispute), and shows no interest in cats. He is housebroken, currently using a dog door. He will sleep in a crate but does not like being confined for very long and will wake everyone up at dawn. (When left loose at night he will sleep in.) This smart boy even knows how to skip over the leash when it gets between his legs, which many dogs never do figure out. Max needs a home where he will be trained and worked. His activity level and drive are likely to make him too much dog for an inexperienced/sedentary owner.

Oly

2007-09-28
|
Location: Texas
Oly was found as a stray near the fence of a good Samaritan who took him in. He had some injuries to his hip and groin area that appeared to be road rash... maybe trauma from a car. Oly has probably been abused at some point in his life. He does not like to be pushed or pulled suddenly and he is a little hand shy. He is learning that it's okay for humans to touch his head, and he has begun to trust a little more. Oly is ready to venture out and get to know some new folks. When he is ready to be picked up, he will come to you and sit. Then he'll cuddle right in and snuggle up. He does well on a leash, is totally crate trained (with a very sweet little warble when he is getting his treat for going in), and 99% housebroken. He is about 4 years old, weighs 14-1/2 pounds, and is a bit short legged. Oly is a bit of a serious guy and would prefer to be either an only dog or maybe with just one or two canine siblings. He deserves a lot of love and spoiling. Because of the possibility of past abuse, Oly needs a terrier-wise family without kids under age 10.

Badger

2007-10-28
|
Location: Kansas
One look at Badger's face will tell you this guy is just overflowing with personality. There may be a little Boston Terrier in his lineage, as he has a very short "corkscrew" tail, undershot jaw, and black and white coloring. His undershot jaw gives him a bit of a pugnacious look and his character sometimes matches. He had been surrendered because no one had time for him anymore and he was tied up in the back yard all alone. Badger gets along fine with 12 out of 13 foster Rat Terrier "siblings" but took a dislike to one, whom he is determined to whoop every time he gets in the same room. Because of this chance of aggression if the personalities clash, Badger needs to be an only dog or with a non-dominant female. He is 6-7 years old and around 15 very solid pounds. He is a charming fellow -- likes people and is fine with children but untrustworthy around small animals, including cats. Badger will sleep quietly in a crate but will complain if left in the crate while everyone else is active. He is housebroken, using a dog door reliably. Despite his rather "tough guy" appearance, Badger's personality will win you over quickly when you met him.
